In an apparent sign of Ethiopia’s future political and economic direction, a university in that country has started to offer an undergraduate degree in Chinese Linguistics. The Mekelle University has accepted and is currently training twenty students for their first degree in Chinese, reports Aigaform. The second biggest economy of the world has increasingly becoming a close partner of Ethiopia. Several Chinese companies are actively involved in different economic sectors in the East African country. Therefore, decision by Mekelle University to start offering a degree in Chinese Language could be in recognition of these growing influences of China in Ethiopia and Africa in general.
