Freedom Now urges the Ethiopian government to release Eskinder Nega

 

Washington, D.C.: In an opinion released today by Freedom Now, the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention found the Government of Ethiopia’s continued detention of independent Ethiopian journalist and blogger Eskinder Nega a violation of international law. The panel of five independent experts from four continents held that the government violated Mr. Nega’s rights to free expression and due process. The UN Working Group called for his immediate release.

Brazilian doctor charged for killing several patients so as to free hospital space

 

A Brazilian doctor was charged for killing seven patients to free up beds at a hospital intensive care unit. Prosecutor for Brazilian Health Ministry investigator believes that the doctor may have also been responsible for as many as 300 deaths.

Prosecutors said Dr. Virginia Soares de Souza and her medical team administered muscle relaxing drugs to patients, then reduced their oxygen supply, causing them to die of asphyxia at the Evangelical Hospital in the southern city of Curitiba.
