South Korea offers scholarship to 300 Ethiopian decendants of Korean war

The Republic of Korea government has shown wonderful gesture to 300 decedents of Ethiopian veterans who fought in the Korean war of 1950 by offering them scholarship, reports ENA. The travel to Korea of all 300 Ethiopians will be completed within two years period. The first group comprising of sixty Ethiopian had already left to South Korea on Wednesday.  

While in South Korea, the Ethiopians will study electronics, automobile, electricity, information technology and other fields of study for eight month. During the sending off ceremony South Korean ambassador to Ethiopia Jong Geun Kim said Ethiopian young soldiers during the 1950 Korean War had contributed greatly for today’s advanced Korea. He said the relation that has started during the war has been flourishing since then. The scholarship costs nine million US dollar.

It was reported that the South Korean President Lee Myung -bak told late PM Meles during his visit to Korea last year that “the people and government of Korea will never forget the sacrifice paid by Ethiopian veterans in those hard times of Korea and Korea will further continue providing economic assistance to Ethiopia.”
