The Little League World Series is under way in Pennsylvania. Uganda is playing, the first time a team from Africa has made the tourney in its 66-year history. The boys from Lugazi lost their opener in the double-elimination tournament yesterday to Panama, 9-3, but they had plenty of American fans rooting for them as underdogs.
Nearly 7,300 people filed Volunteer Stadium Friday evening , many to cheer the first African team in the series. “This is something,” manager Henry Odong said about the crowd after Uganda lost 9-3 to Panama.“They were rooting for us even when we were losing,” he said.
“To me, baseball means sweat, hard work, teaching how to play the game correctly,” Mr. Odong, who learned baseball from Christian missionaries as a teenager, told MLB.com this week. “I like coaching because I want to see the kids play good ball and teach them my skills and ideas.
A Beautiful moment seeing all rooting for the kids from Africa!!!
