What is it like to get a knock on your door and when you open up its Chef Marcus Samuelsson and his beautiful wife, International Supermodel Maya Haile?
Well that's the surprise some Alexandria residents received yesterday as the couple went door to door to encourage people to vote and re-elected Barack Obama for a second term as President of the United States of America.

Right before the canvas kick off, Marcus and Maya stopped by for a quick lunch at Meaza Ethiopian restaurant in Arlington and got right to work.

After lunch they headed straight to the Arlington, Virginia "Obama For America" Field Office, where motivated Obama campaigners eagerly awaited the opportunity to meet celebrity power couple. Marcus, is a world renowned celebrity chef, American Airlines celebrity consulting chef, Top Chef winner, Restaurateur just to mention a few recent accolades. Maya Haile his wife is an International Supermodel, Philanthropist, Humanitarian and Ambassador for little girls and women worldwide. Together they have created various charities that aid in self-empowerment and industrial and independentt humane living, with focus for women in their native homeland of Ethiopia.

An already alert and active group of Obama supporters were diligently at work, phone banking, inputting data, sealing envelopes and even door to door canvassing. Personally experiencing the 48 degree weather with wind that almost knocks you to the ground, it takes true commitment to go at full speed with just three days left until the Presidential Election. Marcus and Maya remained energetic and willing to lend a hand...one consistent message they gave to seniors and elementary students alike, we mustn't loose focus. Samuelsson went on to give a heartfelt "thank you" to those volunteers who are taking the time to help assure that Barack Obama is re-elected for a second term as President Of The United States Of America.

One would never suspect these two were famous celebrities. I found them to be very humorous, sweet and joyful, no characteristics of entitlement. Marcus was dressed in jeans and sneakers, while Maya’s swan-like stride and girl-next-door demeanor showed their humility, dedication and obvious desire to reach out to our community.
