Lionel Messi to appear in court on tax evasion charge

 

Lionel Messi, widely considered the best football player in the world, has been indicted to appear in court in connection with allegations he evaded €4.1 million in taxes.

A judge in Barcelona ruled that Messi and his father Jorge must appear in court on September 17.

If convicted, the FC Barcelona star could face up to six years’s jail or be ordered to pay fines of up to six times the amount allegedly defrauded.
