Barcelona forward Lionel Messi reportedly ignored an astronomical offer from unnamed Russian club whilst negotiating his new contract.
The Argentine extended his stay at Camp Nou last week, signing a deal which apparently upped his wages to $20m a year.
However a report in Spanish media on Thursday states that an unnamed Russian outfit attempted to hijack negotiations by offering Messi $38m a year ($742,000 a week). The suitors were also apparently willing to meet the player’s colossal $330m buyout clause that would force Barcelona to sell him.
Messi and his father Jorge are said to have ignored the approach, choosing not to incorporate it into their discussions with the Catalan club or use it as leverage.
