Ethiopian authorities ban the distribution of local newspaper

Ethiopian authorities have banned the distribution of a newspaper on the ground of national security, according to CPJ. Feteh, a weekly newspaper had prepared pieces about the condition surrounding the health of PM Meles citing reports from the BBC, exiled opposition group and Ethiopian National Transitional Council. Some opposition websites have extensively reported that PM Meles is either dead or brain dead in a European hospital citing their own sources. Whereas government spokesperson last week said that the Primer is in a ‘good condition’ and would be taking sick leave.

According to CPJ official 'the ban on Feteh's latest issue illustrates the depth of repression in Ethiopia today, and authorities' determination to suppress independent coverage of the prime minister. Every citizen has a right to be informed about the well-being of their leader and the conduct of their government. Authorities should reverse their decision and allow the publication of Feteh's weekend edition to proceed.'

Do you think the Ethiopian authorities are right in banning the distribution of Feteh newspaper in the country?
